Pekka Paikkari was born in Somero, Finland, 1960. With over 200 exhibitions worldwide, monumental public commissions and works in major collections internationally he is considered to be one of Finlands greatest living ceramic artists. In the fracture series of work he investigates fragility and how things disintegrate. Laying large slabs of clay on the ground, he manipulates the surface in various ways and then lets the clay naturally crack. Firing each piece separately he then puzzles it back together onto a piece of wood. His pieces are organic and warm.
